Crate Digger Record Fair @ Bar Open

The Crate Digger Record Fair, held upstairs at Bar Open on Brunswick Street, Fitzroy is Melbourne’s longest running and only regular inner-suburban record fair. With stalls over two levels in this renowned music venue, you will find sellers offering up a range of records spanning all genres including rock, pop, indie, punk, prog, blues, jazz, doo wop, garage-punk, soul, funk, folk, metal, soundtracks and more.

Doors open at midday and entry to the fair is free. The bar is open so you can enjoy refreshments while you rifle through crates of records.

It is easily accessible by public transport with access on the 112 and 96 tram lines and various bus routes along Johnston and Victoria Streets. On-street parking is available, some of which is unrestricted and other areas are meter parking, and there is a parking centre attached to Coles next door at very cheap rates (access via Argyle Street).

Since 2012, Crate Digger Record Fairs have branched out, running fairs in various other locations including regular events at Lost & Found in East Brunswick, an annual fair at Northcote Town Hall as well as a one-off record fair in Ballarat for Heritage Weekend 2013.

Crate Digger Record Fair is back at Yah Yah’s for our mid-winter wax-athon on Saturday 29th June. Doors open at midday and you can enjoy rifling through crate-upon-crate of records from a wide range of stallholders selling personal collections and special treats acquired specifically so that you can take them home to pop on the turntable in your best cardigan by the open fire place (or electric oil heater, whatever tickles your fancy).

As usual, sellers will have vinyl diamonds covering all genres, so there’s something for everyone. So whether you’re into Nick Cave, The Replacements, Metallica, Wanda Jackson, Clarence Carter or Dusty Springfield, everyone will find some shelf fillers at the record fair.

Entry is Free and the record fair will be held upstairs. Hello Sailor vintage fair will be held downstairs, so get on it!!!!

Crate Digger Record Fair ((23rd February)) Yah Yah’s

The Crate Digger Record Fair, Melbourne’s longest running inner-city record fair, is back for its fourth year with the first fair of 2013 at Fitzroy’s Yah Yah’s on Saturday 23rd February. Held in conjunction with the Hello Sailor Vintage Fair, Crate Digger is the place to take your search for those elusive pieces of vinyl that you must have in your collection.

For this fair we have a range of stallholders, including two veterans of the Melbourne rock and roll scene downsizing their private collections, a stallholder returning from a buying trip through Europe and the USA, as well as our usual range of private collectors and record shops.

Expect everything from classic rock and roll, indie, pop, blues, punk, soul, doo-wop, R&B, reggae, ska, dub, electro, disco, soundtracks… we cater for all genres, with a mixture of local and overseas pressings, to help you find sought after rarities or collection fillers. Prices range from the dirt-cheap bargain bin specials, right through to rare, once in a lifetime finds that might cost you a pineapple or two…

As always, entry is free, the beer is cold and the good people from Disco Beans will be serving up some tasty Japanese home-style snacks for your browsing pleasure.

Doors open at midday – so we’ll see you down at the Crate Digger Record Fair at Yah Yah’s for the first time in 2013.
